How many women are in your IT classrooms?

Not enough?
Get more women in the picture!
Learn how to recruit and retain women in the IT and computing classroom at this interactive, one-day workshop with the Institute for Women in Trades, Technology & Sciences (IWITTS).

WomenTech Educators Workshop:
More Female Students in IT/Computing in Just One Year
Friday, May 20
Sturbridge Host Conference Center, Sturbridge, Mass.

Custom-designed for CAITE, this workshop will give Massachusetts community colleges, state colleges, and universities the tools to recruit and retain more women into IT and computing programs and see them successfully complete 4-year degrees in these fields. Designed by the National Institute for Women in Trades, Technology & Science (IWITTS), in consultation with CAITE, the workshop is based on proven practices, is always solutions oriented, and is a "lot of fun" according to male and female educator participants at previous IWITTS workshops.
Develop an action plan to recruit women into your IT and computing classrooms with strategies for community college transfer programs and four-year programs. The session will reveal the latest research findings from IWITTS's NSF-funded project that has seen an increase in female enrollment of 10-15% within 16 months and has significantly increased completion rates for both female and male students.
Who should attend
  • Faculty (female and male) teaching in IT and computer science 4-year and CC transfer programs
  • College and university administrators committed to increasing diversity in their IT and computing programs
  • College admissions or advising staff who recruit students into these programs

What you'll learn

  • Discover best practices.
  • Learn new recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Explore gender-specific learning styles.
  • Work through recruitment and retention case studies.
  • Create an action plan.
  • Learn how to enlist others in the effort.
  • Interact and have fun!
WomenTech workshop content will be customized for the CAITE context.

CAITE welcomes teams of up to 3 individuals from each CAITE campus and invited non-CAITE campuses. Team attendance is strongly recommended so that the creation and implementation of a recruiting/retention action plan is a shared responsibility with institutional buy-in and support.
